Chef Matt Manning has searched the Cape high and low for a decent Sunday roast, to no avail…so has decided to make his own!
During the winter months, Matt is hosting ‘Sunday Lunch Club’ – a pop-up roast lunch at a local wine farm. The winemaker will give guests a tour of their cellar followed by a wine tasting, before seating everyone at large communal table (this ain’t no restaurant), where Matt will serve up some grub. Expect a hot, creamy soup to start, served with freshly baked bread slathered in butter, followed by a proper Sunday lunch. Slow-roasted meats, Yorkshire puds, an array of veggie sides, lashings of rich gravy, and of course – everyone’s favourite…golden roast potatoes! We finish off with something sweet and decadent before you head home for a Sunday snooze (also known as a food coma!)
We kick off our first ever Sunday Lunch Club with one of Matt’s favourites, Huis van Chevallerie on Nuwedam Farm in the Swartland. Christa van Chevallerie is one of South Africa’s most respected grape growers, and also makes her own label MCC, the eternally popular Filia. Christa also recently launched her first still wine, the old-world style Nuwedam Chenin.
